– The former INEC official said the running for the post because he believed he has the wherewithal to do so The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who heads Cross River state and the governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state, Franland Briyai has reacted to his sack by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The REC on Wednesday, August 14, said he was not sacked by INEC but that he resigned his appointment, dismissing the news saying so as fake, Vanguard reports.
Briyai made this known while answering questions from journalists during his visit to the state leadership of the APC in Yenagoa.
He said he was at the party’s secretariat to get familiar with the leadership of the party and tell them that he is a registered member with the intent to contest in the APC’s governorship primaries.
“INEC never said that they sacked me, I have officially resigned my appointment and INEC can attest to that. I have contacted INEC Headquarters and the news about my sack is a fake news.
“INEC said they didn’t say anything like that, if you have read INEC press statement, you won’t find anything like sack because I have resigned officially on August 8,” he said. He said his decision to the governorship race was because people of the state called and persuaded him to do so.
Briyai also added that he has made adequate consultation that he has what it takes to rule the state as its governor.
